Musical Dave forwarded this article which has me frothing at the mouth - am I the only one appalled by casting Americans as Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi in the film of Alexander McCall Smith's The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency?! No offense to you Americans out there, but are there really no Southern Africans who could take on these roles? I find that very hard to believe! Grrr...

God forbid any actual Africans get on the cast; they're such appalling actors you know.
Eishhhhh.
In fairness, Jill Scott is appropriately "traditionally shaped", but she's much too young for the role. Also I have yet to hear a convincing African accent come out of an American mouth.
Sorry guys, you may rock at bombing the middle east, but you suck at pretending to be us.
LOL
I heard a while ago that Sandy McCall Smith was interviewed on television in Botswana by a lady who just 'was' Mma Ramotswe to a tee. What became of attempts to cast her, I don't know; without wishing to cause offence to others I agree that it seems a missed opportunity to have to go outwith Africa to find the star.
